Born and raised in the Hudson Valley, NY, Ben Newsome has been an educator, advocate, performer, and student of the Arts from an early age. With world-renown artists and venues within hailing distance, his childhood was filled with a cornucopia of artistic influences and experiences. While living in New York City he studied with an incredible array of jazz musicians, composers, scholars and leaders of the arts community. As a jazz musician his primary goal is to enlighten and entertain his audiences all over the world. He has played for the US Embassy in Bagdad, the Capitol Building in Washington DC and the New York governor's inauguration. He has played at Minton's Playhouse, Rockefeller Plaza, and the Yarmouk Cultural Center in Kuwait. He has played with Grammy winner Malcolm Cecil, John Menegon, Tani Tabbal, and Marvin "Bugalu" Smith and has been featured in concert with Brian Swartz, Dave Pietro, Michael Dease and Rudresh Manhanthappa.
As an advocate for the Arts Ben has worked with 501(c)(3) nonprofits in several musical and artistic settings throughout the US. He has held the title of Performance Coordinator and Music Director, throughout his journey to connect the arts community with new audiences and sustainable resources.
As an educator Ben has lectured in schools and universities in such diverse setting as Texas, New Mexico, New York City, and Kuwait City. Ben is a Graduate of New York University (MM) and the Purchase Conservatory of Music (Bmus.). He currently resides in Austin, TX.
